Properties for sale or rent in Boca Tapada, Alajuela
Boca Tapada is only a few hours away from Alajuela, yet you are transported in a tropical world of abundance, with 500 hectares of virgin tropical rainforest and the Laguna de Lagarto Lake nearby. This is one of the only places on earth where you can admire the great green macaw and the chestnut bellied heron. Red macaws, toucans, humming birds, three species of monkeys, basilisks, green and red poison dart frogs, caimans and crocodiles, parrots, indeed 350 species of birds have been recorded in the area!
For those looking for unvisited and unspoiled Costa Rica, there is no better place than Boca Tapada, where civilization seems to be so far away and animals live in total peace and undisturbed, this thanks to a couple of people who after buying land there, realized that the best they could do was to conserve it. Now over 400 hectares of rain forest is protected. There are a couple of small lodges, the Laguna de Lagarto Lodge and the Maquenque Eco Lodge inside the Maquenque Park.
Both lodges offer excellent food and drinks (I hear they serve a mean Pina Colada) in an atmosphere of peace and serenity unequalled anywhere else. You wake up to the mysterious sounds of the jungle. Every morning, birds like the keel billed toucans come to have breakfast on the fruit trees surrounding the cabins; these trees are not just for the pleasure of the visitors, they are designed to attract the wildlife as well.
This gem is one of the few treasured spot on earth where wildlife can be observed just as it should be. Make sure to add it to your list of Must Do when you come to Costa Rica!
