Properties for sale or rent in Playa Naranjo, Guanacaste
Playa Naranjo is located in one of the wildest and more outstanding part of the Pacific Coast of Costa Rica. Famous amongst avid surfers for its Witches Rock (Roca Bruja) break, it was there that the surfing movie Endless Summer II was filmed. The lovely 6.6km long beach has two estuaries that run parallel to the beach. Dramatic rocks mark the end of the beach and nearby there is a place called Nancite where turtles come from August to December for nesting. Also don’t miss the mangrove in Laguna El Estero Real and Limbo.
Playa Naranjo and Witches Rock represent the surfer’s idea of paradise. Surfing is better during high tide and winds are predominant from December to March. The area is totally remote and pristine as there are no hotels or cabinas in Naranjo; it is recommended staying in Playa Tamarindo, Playa Grande, or Playa del Coco. For the more adventurous, it is possible to camp on Naranjo, but be sure to bring plenty of insect repellent as there are plenty of mosquitoes at times. Playa del Coco actually has its own Witch’s Rock Surf Camp and they even have a boat, with which they can take you to Ollie’s Point that offers surf that is sometimes as good as Witch’s Rock.
Playa Naranjo is also very close to the Santa Rosa National Park. The park was first opened in 1971 to commemorate the famous battle of Santa Rosa that took place in 1856. It protects the marshland and the mangroves, as well as the deciduous forest and the savannah. There are many endangered species living there including margay, jaguars, ocelots, peccaries, tapirs, coatimundis, jaguarundy, armadillo, many varieties of sea and land turtles, and coyotes are plentiful. Santa Rosa has its own beaches that are lovely for swimming.
Whether you like to surf or not, this area is really worth seeing. Its wilderness is inspiring and brings a feeling of peace of tranquillity, combined with the forces of the elements; it is unique for with its untouched beauty and wild seas. The sky is always blue, the sea turquoise and fierce and the sun is shining!
