Medical Services Offered in Costa Rica

Costa Rica has some of the best medical professionals and hospitals in the world.

Medical Tourism in Costa Rica continued to increase in 2010 to more
than 150,000 visitors. By the end of the year, this will be an increase of almost 20% from 2008. It is estimated that as many as 15% to 20% of those who vacation in Costa Rica, come here for medical
tourism as health care there can be as much as 70% less expensive than it is in the U.S.  Contact Karen Real Estate for more information.

Medical tourism (also called medical travel, health tourism or global healthcare) is a term initially coined by travel agencies and the mass media to describe the rapidly-growing practice of traveling across
borders to obtain health care. However, what is also becoming more prominent is the practice of healthcare providers and doctors traveling internationally to deliver healthcare services.

More and more specialty doctors are now traveling to Costa Rica and either being assisted by or assisting local doctors there.  And why not?  They can charge much less while at the same time, get a great
vacation.

These medical services include elective procedures as well as complex specialized surgeries such as joint replacement (knee/hip), cardiac surgery, dental surgery, cosmetic surgeries and the new hot item, a cure for diabetes.  Virtually every type of health care, including psychiatry, alternative treatments, drug and alcohol rehab and convalescent care can be obtained. After major surgery, one is usually sent to an eco-minded wellness center to recoup in surroundings nothing short of paradise; a far cry from a sterile hospital. It’s much less expensive and a hundred times more relaxing.

In addition, Costa Rica is rated as one of the world’s most stable countries … with only 6 countries ranked higher out of 165.  Of all the countries in the Americas (North America, Central America, The Caribbean and South America); only Costa Rica and Canada made the top 20 – the U.S.A. ranked 55 overall.
