Real Estate in Playas del Coco. Lodged in the beautiful Gulf of Papagayo, in Guanacaste, Coco Beach, is one of Costa Rica’s most famous beaches.
Coco has been a popular beach amongst the local people for a long time now, however over the last decade it has developed into one of the most visited beach of the country.
It is the largest village in Papagayo, and because it started off as a popular destination amongst locals, it does have a little bit more character than some of the other brand new beach towns. Coco is the meeting and often sleeping ground for surfers who come in area to surf in the famous breaks Witches Rock and Ollie’s Point.
Because it has cheaper hotel rates, many people choose Coco as a base while they explore the surrounding areas; this however does not mean to say that it does not have a great choice of splendid and luxurious resorts to choose from.
Playas del Coco has now acquired an international flair. It is a popular destination for sports fishing, surfing, and scuba diving. Dive companies and Guided tours are plentiful, indeed, in playa del Coco, there is plenty to do, whether you just like to relax or prefer more active endeavor; you will find a wide range of shops, bars, restaurants, discos, hotels, casinos, resorts and markets of all sorts. People like to gather and to organize beach parties!
While it can be almost deserted in the low season, it can get quite crowded near Christmas and Easter time. Coco is definitely a fun place to be however there are plenty of hidden quiet spots if this is what you seek.
The sand of Playas del Coco is light gray in color giving the sea a unique blue-gray tint. Because the tide is usually quite low, the beach is large and people like to take long strolls and look for shells. It has a perfect horseshoe shape that is surrounded by steep cliffs giving it that idealistic holiday look.
Once in Coco, let yourself be seduced by a boat trip to Pelonas, Catalinas and Bat Islands; you will see turtles, sharks, dolphins, and large octopuses in their natural environment. Because the sea is so clear, they are surprisingly easy to see. Incidentally, Coco is one of the best beaches from where you can sail in this country, apart from the main marinas such as Los Suenos and Flamingo.
One of Coco’s attractions is to see the awesome and massive Leatherbacks, the Pacific Green and the Hawksbill Turtles come ashore to nest, in an activity called Arribadas. This takes place on Playa Grande, just south of Tamarindo, in Las Baulas National Park, from November to March. If you get there later, you may also be blessed by the sight of the tiny turtles racing towards the ocean!

If you are driving, it takes about 5 hours to reach Coco, but if you are feeling laid back, you can fly and you’ll reach Daniel Oduber Airport in just over 30 minutes. You may then get a shuttle bus, a local bus or a taxi to cover the short drive to Coco.
